For the past few months, I’ve been absolutely hooked on açaí bowls. They taste amazing, make for the perfect Instagram post and serve as a great mid-afternoon energy boost. Plus, they’re even supposed to have some added health benefits. There’s really only one downside: they can be a bit pricey.
After a bit of searching online, I found a way to make my favorite afternoon pick-me-up at home. All you really need is a blender to get started.
- Acai juice (Since this can sometimes be tricky to find, I use Power Berry Juice from Trader Joe’s).
- Approximately 1 cup of frozen whole fruit (I like using a mixture of strawberries and blueberries).
- 1 whole banana.
- About ½ cup of granola, depending on personal preference.
- ½ cup of fresh fruit for topping.
- Honey for drizzling.
As for the recipe itself, it’s pretty simple. Add your frozen fruit and banana together in the blender, pour in your juice and add just enough juice to cover the fruit about half way – you don’t want the smoothie base to be too runny. I recommend adding the juice a little at a time to get the best consistency.
Once you get the base to the consistency of your liking, pour the mixture into a bowl. Top with granola and fresh fruit, and drizzle on some honey to top it all off. Ta-da, homemade açaí bowl!
Since the recipe is so simple, there’s a lot of room to try new things and play around with different ingredients. A quick online search is guaranteed to give you plenty of drool-worthy inspiration.
