I recently had the amazing opportunity to attend Hedley & Bennett’s School of Hustle. Yes, a totally free, totally incredible event co-sponsored by Instagram.

Surrounded by 200+ entrepreneurs, small business owners, and hustlers, the day was jam-packed with informational panels, breakout sessions, and summer camp-themed fun. Activities for the day included a social media-themed scavenger hunt, a giant ball-pit and yes, s’mores to end the night. Hello, social media bliss.

One of the main goals for the event was to “celebrate the community of local businesses in Los Angeles and empower even more entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and tell their visual stories.”Wow, right? This means the conference was geared toward and filled with some super inspirational self-starters. Take a look at some of my favorite speakers from the event:

Biggest Takeaways & Best Quotes

When talking about your hustle: Don't apologize and don't brag - Ellen Bennett, CEO & Founder of Hedley & Bennett

This quote resonated with me the most. I often find myself wanting to apologize for talking about the things I’m passionate about or even holding back. When I started doing small projects on the side, it took me months to actually talk about it. Not because I wasn’t excited, but because I really didn’t know the right way. I learned confidence and passion are really key here. If you don’t believe in what you do, why should anyone else?

There’s no shame in the struggle - Jen Gotch, Founder & Chief Creative Officer of ban.do

Can I get an amen? No one is successful overnight, and sometimes you need to be reminded of that. Everyone has their own pace and own way of doing something. It sucks to struggle and to feel lost in the process, but the rewards are so worth it.
