Small Girl. Big City. Part III
It’s been a few months since I first wrote about my side hustle. For 7 months, I worked a full-time position while signing and working with new clients. It wasn’t until more recently that balancing both became a bit more difficult. As I continued to sign more clients, my free time diminished more and more.
By the end of June, I was working almost 60 hours each week, splitting my time between three clients, a full-time job and my own personal life. Even though my free time was extremely limited, the real struggle didn’t set in until I realized I preferred working those “extra” hours, over my full-time job. At the time, I primarily did my client work on weekends, early mornings and late nights. But, I always felt guilty not committing my full attention to my clients—especially since I wasn’t always accessible during the day. Not only that, but I didn’t have the ability take on more clients.
After a month of soul-searching, number-crunching and reassurance from my friends and family, I decided it was time to finally make this official.
New Beginnings
I’m excited to share that I’ve officially gone full time and have started my own social media strategy consulting firm. I’ve had more than 6 years of experience in developing social media strategy and staying in front of digital trends. The majority of my experience has always been specific to social media and digital strategy, so it just felt right to offer full-time services based on those strengths.
Helping build and grow my parents business and online presence over the last 10 years was one of my biggest motivating factors to share my skills and start something of my own. I witnessed firsthand why social media and digital strategy was so crucial to their success, especially with a limited marketing budget. From social media scheduling to digital content and asset creation, I believe I can be an affordable option for small businesses that need help, regardless of their industry.
Why Am I Just Now Sharing This?
I’ve struggled with this a lot. Quitting my full-time job wasn’t an easy decision, and it scared the hell out of me. When I was trying to make the decision, I was still unsure if this was something I could realistically do full-time. If it was, I wasn’t completely sure this was something I felt comfortable enough to share.I’ve been doing this (successfully) for more than a month now. I wasn’t ready to share this project until everything was totally set up and official.
There’s been a ton of behind the scenes work to set all this up the right way, and I didn’t want to take any shortcuts. If I was going to do this, I was giving it everything I had. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s incredibly rewarding to watch this become a reality.
