Cheers to the New Year
Hello!
Yes, I know. It’s been a while. 393 days to be exact.
Last year, I didn’t write a single personal article. In my defense, I did write 22 articles for work-related projects. (That’s not really an excuse, but I’m totally going to use it.)
2019 was a pretty great year. It was the year I discovered my love for Indian and Thai food. It was filled with many trips to Disneyland and was rounded out with a healthy dose of coffee and wine consumption.
Although I was a little quiet here, I attempted to document the past year on social media. In 2019 we visited 36 wineries, 7 National Parks, 6 states, took 2 trips to NYC and spent 1 week in Mexico.
While I considered a long-winded recap, detailing everything you’ve missed over the past 12 months. I ultimately decided to highlight 25 of the most memorable moments from the past year and provide a sneak-peek into what I have planned for 2020.
A Look Back at 2019
January
1. Kicked off the new year with a bang! We attended the first-ever Dance Out of the Box fitness event with our friend and favorite trainer Deja!
February
2. Our wine travels continued! We traveled up the California coast for the big, bold wines of Paso Robles. (P.S. We logged 10 new wineries on this visit alone!)
March
3. First plane ride of the year! Off to NYC for Dessert Goals (#workperk).
4. First time having Thai food! Give me all the Massaman Curry and Mango Sticky Rice.
April
5. Hello, Yelp Elite Status! We visited Knott’s Berry Farm for the first time and got to attend the Boysenberry Festival. (Thank you, Yelp!)
6. Celebrated 5 year anniversary with Kev! Half a decade down and more to go. ❤️
May
7. Back to NYC! For my second event of the year, I helped set up the Create & Cultivate NYC conference. (I even got to see Martha Stewart!)
8. Annual visit to the Oxnard Strawberry Festival! For our 3rd-year in a row, we munched on strawberry shortcake and strawberry tamales drank strawberry beer, and of course, brought home a pallet of fresh strawberries.
9. Kevin’s got a new job! At the end of May, Kevin was brought on to manage all things marketing for a very cool fitness + tech company (more on that later).
10. Camp KA is born! Our first-time puppy sitting our sweet little Ember was a success.
June
11. Chosen to attend the iHeartRadio album launch party for Bastille! Fun fact we’ve seen them 3 times, for all 3 of their albums, in 3 different states.
12. Helped launch the inaugural Rom Com Fest in LA! 10 romantic comedy-themed films, 8 shorts, a live podcast, comedy show, and a live table reading all in just 3 days.
July
13. 1 very epic road trip for the 4th of July! We visited 7 National Parks plus Devil's Bridge Trail, Horseshoe Bend & Seven Magic Mountains outside of Las Vegas.
14. Puerto Vallarta, again! After our first trip to Puerto Vallarta for my birthday in 2018, we were dying to go back. This time, we spent some time in Sayulita as well!
August
15. Hosted my first solo event! I planned the launch party for FightCamp’s first retail location in Fashion Island.
16. Joined my first coworking space! As much as I love working from home, having a dedicated office space is a great change of pace. Plus there’s free coffee!
September
17. Turned 26! In typical Kevin and Alexa fashion, we celebrated with a long weekend of wine tasting Santa Ynez.
18. First speaking gig! Spoke about Who, What, When, & How To Create The Best Email Marketing Strategy.
October
19. Friends trip to Portland! We spent a long weekend exploring the greater Portland area and Willamette Valley. (We also went in 2018 for Halloween!)
20. Apple picking in Oak Glen for the 4th year! (I wrote this after our first time in Oak Glen.) Strawberries and apples? Clearly we love fruit-themed activities.
21. Won most creative costume! Costume contest at my coworking space, wine not?
22. First time having Indian food! I can’t believe it took me until October of 2019 to try Chicken Korma. But here we are making up for lost time.
November
23. Dessert Goals in Los Angeles! My second Dessert Goals event for the year was 4 days, featured 21 of the best vendors in LA (plus a few from NYC!) and had over 4,000 people in attendance.
24. Broke my first bone! (Sorry big toe). Maybe not the happiest moment of the year, but it was very memorable. Note to self, orthopedic boots are not fashionable and will match with nothing in your closet.
December
25. Surprise! We’re going to Europe! Kevin went above and beyond this Christmas and surprised me with a trip to London and France!
2020—What’s Ahead
In the past few years, I’ve picked a single word to represent the coming year.
2017 – create
2018 – build
2019 – hustle
For 2020, I picked the word explore.
Explore
This year I want to explore new passions, new projects and explore the world. While 2019 was filled with travel, 2020 is shaping up to be just as full of new adventures!
We’re kicking off the year with some very exciting trips.
